Original Songs
Wait, hold on, Mike... You mean, in addition to all of your other half-baked, self-proclaimed "talents," you're also a musician? Yep, that's right! I think. And making one of these songs takes way more time than a parody does because not only do I have to write the lyrics, I gotta...do everything
else! And you know something? I think these sound pretty dang good.
Yeah. For someone with no music theory knowledge... Yeah? Well why don't you have a listen and then you can judge. :)
Math ClassJune 2010
Yay, math! What? Did you just sigh? Well, actually, you may want to listen to this song then. This upbeat rock tune rails on math with an angst that is greater than or equal to that of a high school kid stuck in an after-school pre-calc extra help period. If you have any feeling toward math--love or hate--then give this a listen!
Bubble Gum YogurtMay 2010
This song is a shout-out to a good friend... In the style of Beastie Boys hip-hop/rap, Theo and I tell the story of how bubble gum yogurt might not actually be as tasty as it sounds. We also got our other friend from work, Nicole, to support us with some kickin' violin!
Crush on a FreshmanFebruary 2010
Back in high school, I did in fact have a crush on a freshman. And if I were into making music back then, I probably would've come out with this song earlier. Featuring both my acoustic and electric, as well as my good-enough-to-get-the-job-done voice, this song celebrates my "I only want what I can't have" blues. Enjoy!
VacationOctober 2010 / October 2009
UPDATE: This song was remastered and
added to the Rock Band Network! Now that I know a thing or two about basic mixing, the song sounds a lot better. (For the old version of the song, click
here.)
Another original composition for ya! Inspired by my extraordinarily dull daily routine, this song is about as close as I'm gonna get to running away from it all. Despite that, it's still an upbeat and melodic tune. I guess we're forming something of a
style after all! Cheers on Theo's rockin' solo and my slightly-better-than-mediocre vocals; this sounds like our best yet!
Pocket Full of Win (Remix)May 2009
Celebrating the anniversary of "Pocket Full of Win"'s existence, this remix is a synth-style,
Nintendo Entertainment System-esque version of the smash hit that tore up the charts all summer. OK, maybe I'm exaggerating; it might've only been a couple of weeks on the top ten. Or maybe not at all; I don't remember. I can tell you though that this is a fun little tune and you may just catch yourself humming it later!
Pocket Full of WinJune 2008
All of the songs I've put together since I started the whole "music" thing have been parodies of other songs. I hear that when people first learn instruments, it's encouraged to learn to play "OPM," or "other people's music." I guess that's essentially what I've been doing...up until now. Yep, "Pocket Full of Win" is my first original song: original melody, lyrics, and guitar (thanks to Theo; great job, man). You might find that it's pretty basic...possibly catchy...and maybe even a little charming?
